In the system developed by Mikao Usui some principles were introduced to improve one’s mind and spirit.
It is believed that, in order for the Reiki healing energies to have complete results, the client must accept responsibility for her/his own healing and take an active part in it.
“The secret art of inviting happiness
The miraculous medicine of all diseases
Just for today, let go of anger
Just for today, let go of worry
Just for today, be filled with gratitude
Just for today, be kind to people
Just for today, devote yourself to your work
Every morning and evening, join your hands in prayer.
Pray these words to your heart
and chant these words with your mouth
Usui Reiki Treatment for the improvement of body and mind.”
The founder , Usui Mikao.
Just for today locates you in the here and now: the past is gone; the future has not yet come; where your presence is your energy.
Anger, worries, complaints… they don’t help improving any situation; those emotions are really toxic and affect the quality of life.
Respect, kindness and gratefulness bring peace and harmony within yourself and others.
Devote yourself to your work, I understand this principle as a personal development work, the work of improving oneself every day.
In my experience, I cannot tell what has been more transformational during my journey with Reiki, whether the use of the energy or the practical application of the 5 principles.
As Usui said, the combination of both is the “secret art of inviting happiness”.
The principles remind us to carefully pay attention to the mind, the mind can really be your best friend and your worst enemy.
In order to be able to control the mind or at least to direct it the practice of meditation is very useful.
I encourage everyone to try it, starting from a 5min simple daily meditation.
